Each hand starts off with the dealer dealing two cards to each player. The dealer will deal the first to the person that has the button. The button will be rotated around to the left for each new hand. Each player receives two cards face down. In some instances, the game will be played with blinds. These are used to speed up the game because they require minimum bets to be made to play the hand.

After each player gets their two cards, the bidding begins. Here the player will have the ability to bet, raise, call or fold. After the first round of betting has been done, the dealer will take the top card on the deck and cancel it by placing it aside. This is to ensure that nobody has snuck a peek at the top card to prevent cheating.

After this, the dealer will flip over three cards on the table which will be shared by the players. Each player will virtually have the same hand based on what shows on the table except for the two cards they are holding in their own hand. The person who can make the best five card hand based on the cards flipped over on the table and the two in their own hand will win the pot.

After the three cards are flipped, a round of betting ensues, followed by another card flipped over on the table. Then more betting ensues. Then the last card is flipped over. The final round of betting is made, then each player turns up their cards and shows what hand they have. The winner gets the pot.
