Celebrities That Play Poker
These days, the top poker players have become well known celebrities. With poker so big these days, the stars are getting into the game. Here’s a short list of some stars that have gotten involved in poker.
Jennifer Tilly shocked the poker world in 2005 WSOP by winning the ladies event, and a bracelet. Many thought this must be a fluke, but she has followed that up with other good results. Most notably she won the WPT ladies invitational later that year.
Sully Erna, the lead singer of Godsmack has been noticeably present in poker events recently. Although he doesn’t consider himself a professional by any means, he plays as much as the pros. He has cashed in the WSOP main event both of the last two years.
James Woods is a regular at poker tournaments. Not a very successful player in the tournaments, he loves the action anyway. He is an owner of Hollywood Poker, a popular online poker room.
Ben Affleck has played in cash games for years. In 2004 though, he showed up at the 10,000 buy in main event at the California State Poker Championships. He took out the entire field and won the event.
Chad Brown doesn’t have the celebrity status that the others on this list do. To say he is a celebrity who play poker is backwards. He is a poker pro who was an actor. He definitely is the best tournament player on this list.
He hasn’t won any major tournaments yet. With over 2 million in earnings this is hard to believe. His second place in event 54 of the 2007 WSOP was his latest chance for a big win.
Gabe Kaplan, of Welcome Back Kotter fame, is the iconic celebrity poker player. He has been involved in poker for years. Back in the seventies, when televised poker lived in obscurity, Gabe was often the host, or the poker expert, for the commentary.
He has been going to Las Vegas for the WSOP since 1978. Over the years he has managed to reach six final tables. This has been over a nineteen year span.
Gabe can still be found doing commentary for poker shows. He is close to the game, is a good player in his own right, and has a quick comedic mind. This makes for a quality voice for poker.
Poker is on the rise. The game is now a mainstream event. The WSOP main event draws the celebrities into the game. They, like everyone else want to take a shot at the pros in the biggest poker event in the world.

In holdem you should almost always bet and not let your opponent see any cards without paying. Simply put, if you think you have the best hand bet. The biggest reason you want to bet is so the other players have to pay to see more cards. So many times you will lose a big pot, instead of winning a small one, because you didn’t bet after the flop.
